Q. How does motion detection work? Through the camera or software?

Motion detection works through the software in the DVR system by recording video when pixels in the image change. Most Security DVRs offer a sensitivity scale so the user can set the sensitivity of the motion detection. Motion detection video makes it extremely easy to review and find events.

Q. What do I do if my security system is not working properly?

Call Austin Security at 780-448-2809 immediately to make an appointment for service.

Q. What if I change my telephone service provider?

Your security system uses your phone line to transmit alarm signals to the monitoring station. We recommend testing your system immediately after your new telephone provider finishes the installation to ensure its functioning.

Q. How do I change my emergency key holders list?

Simply call Austin Security and have your password and account number ready in order to make any changes. Remember to notify your key holders list regarding their responsibilities when they receive a call from the monitoring station.

Q. If I trip my alarm, what should I do?

Enter your 4 digit code to send a cancel alarm to the monitoring station. Wait for the telephone line to clear and then call the monitoring station to confirm the cancel signal. You will need to provide your password to cancel any dispatch action.

Q. Will my alarm system still work if the power goes off?

Yes, every alarm system is supplied with a back-up battery that will maintain your alarm for several hours. In the event your battery is low, a low battery signal will be sent to the monitoring station and you will be notified.

Q. Should I test my security system?

Yes, test your security system weekly. Before testing call the monitoring station and have your password and account number ready to put it on test.

Q. How many hours of video can the Security DVR store?

The length of archive video depends on the number of cameras, frames per second (FPS) and amount of available hard disk space. Our pre-configured systems usually provide several weeks or even months of archived video.

Q. What happens if there is power outage?

Most Security DVR’s will come back on as soon as power is restored. However, we suggest an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which provides a short period of backup power and also serves as a surge protection device

Q. Can I view live and recorded video locally?

Yes.

Q. Can I view live and recorded video remotely?

Yes, most of our Security DVR systems are Internet enabled. You can view live and recorded video from anywhere in the world through an Internet. Live video can also be viewed from a smart phone like an iPhone or Blackberry.

Q. Can several users view one site at once?

Yes, most Internet-enabled Security DVR systems allow multiple users to view the same site simultaneously.

Q. How many cameras do I need?

This will depend on the size and layout of the area you wish to survey.

Q. Can I upgrade from my existing VCR system?

Yes, we simply plug your existing CCTV cameras into the back of the new DVR.

Q. Can I zoom in with a camera?

Yes, but you need a special camera called a Pan-Tilt-Zoom or PTZ camera.

Q. What is a DVR?

DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder. A Security DVR is capable of taking the video from digital or analog cameras and recording it in a digital format onto a hard drive. DVR’s are an ideal replacement for time lapse VCRs.
